According to the latest FINRA industry data (2020 report), there are 3,517 registered broker/dealers (B/D).

They range in size from one registered representative (RR) to over 15,000.

​Further analysis shows us that there are 168 firms that have more than 500 RR and another 545 firms that have 50 to 500.

We stay involved with your transition from beginning to end but the process does not end when you change roles. We monitor the early part of your transition, sharing best practices to ensure a successful transition.

Part of our due diligence process is to help you get the answers to some of the following questions:

  • What is the B/D’s reputation in the marketplace?
     

  • Does the B/D have any areas of specialty that would help your growth?
     

  • What is the philosophy of the firm?
     

  • What operational support should you expect at the local and national level during and after a transition?
     

  • How does their technology compare to your current firm?
     

  • How advisor friendly is their compliance process?
     

  • What type of marketing support exists and how does it compare with your current situation?
     

  • Do they self-clear, have only one option, or several choices of clearing firms?
     

  • What type of expenses should you expect as an advisor?
     

  • Is the payout grid better than your current situation?
     

  • Are there any succession plan options available?
     

  • Who legally owns the clients?

  • What is the profile of a typical advisor at this new firm?
     

  • Do they support international business?
     

  • Do they have access to private shares, private equity offerings, and any other alternatives investments?
     

  • How is the access to senior management?
     

  • Do they offer coaching programs?
     

  • Do they offer transition assistance and financial incentives to join?
     

  • Are they part of the “Protocol” agreement?
     

  • If you leave your new firm, what is their litigation profile?
     

  • How do they pay commissions on Life Insurance and Annuity business?
     

  • Can you buy/acquire books of business (internal /external)?
     

  • What is the support ratio to revenues for sales assistant for a W2 model?
     

  • Can you grow your net worth through any kind of longevity bonus, deferred income, restricted shares, equity in the business, stock options, etc.?
